it really is. amazingly, the kid survived. the most remarkable part is the dad who casually rides down the escalator after he sees his kid motionless on the ground below. wtf'ing hell?

Thank God the kid survived. I was thinking the same thing about the guy riding down the escalator. Makes it even worse that it was the boys father.
Big win by the Flyers today. At 3-2 I wasn't even that nervous that the Sens would tie it up. Mason played well again. Just enjoying the ride at this point.
It's really hard to put yourself in the bubble during this time of year. Missed the game but glad to see we took the two points.
I wanted to clarify an argument I was making for Ghost and how important I feel he's been for this team. He's a young rookie defenseman who has not only collected points but has done it in dynamic fashion. This isn't me saying the team isn't good or picking up slack, I'm saying Ghost has added an element to this team that we've desperately needed for along time.
While Sean Couturier has looked more comfortable carrying the offense in a second line role, he's still two goals away from only matching his career high. Ditto for points. Yes the kid has got hurt, so has a lot of players on this team. I'm just not feeling the same "emergence" of Couturier's offense as I have with Schenn's. I'm not bashing Sean Couturier or anyone else because there is no question Couturier is important. I just have felt more impact from Ghost then anyone else this season.
I'm prepared to be bashed for this but I do feel Ghost significantly increased our playoff hopes this season.

obviously you weren't on that escalator today.
i think we're all enjoying the ride though...even if they weren't winning, which would be annoying, you can see the effort is there, the consistency is there, the support is there. it's never pretty from beginning to end but they are finding ways to win close games over and over and over. today they did it with their sagging power play. hopefully they can find another way tomorrow.

How the hell did that kid survive? Did you see his melon smack the ground? Dumbass parents. Lose track of your 2 year old like that.

why on earth would you say you're prepared to be bashed for that thought? i'd guess virtually everyone in here believes gost has impacted the team more than anyone else...or at a minimum, as much as anyone else. it's undeniable that this is a different team with him in the lineup. especially with the loss of mdz.
i have no problem in saying they would not be where they are without him. many others have contributed along the way in the 2nd half, which they've needed. but he has been the spark.
couturier, in my mind, has been uneven over the course of the year, BUT he's taken another step and is a key player they need. i wish he were faster. that's the one thing he'll never have. wheels. if they get in, his contributions will be necessary for them to have any success.

I wanted a competitive year during the rebuild. This is far better. We're playing with house money now. No matter what happens from here, we've had a better year than could be expected.
There's been strides made by several key young players-Couturier has provided his usual shut down and possession dominance and scored at a good rate. Brayden Schenn has played the most consistent all around hockey of his professional career. Shayne Gostisbehere is a legit Calder candidate and has been a great shot in the arm.
We've also seen continued excellence from the veterans. Giroux still is scoring at an elite level. Mason has delivered another season of very good to great goaltending. Voracek has been productive. Simmonds is close to a career high in goals. Prior to injury, Del Zotto was having a fantastic all around season.
The coaching staff has done a very good job of getting the most out of the roster. They have turned last year's one line mess into a 200 foot terror. A team that is a positive possession team and a team that has been one of the best in the East since January 1st. They get contributions from all 4 lines and all 3 D pairs. The special teams play has improved. It's an all hands on deck situation and every guy is doing his job.

Plus the future is amazingly promising. - Jsaquella
agree all around. despite a bad start, a series of injuries to key players, deadwood and underperforming players, and a much maligned bottom 6 and d corps, here they are.
the efforts of that bottom group have been underestimated. they seem to be on the ice too much for my liking, but what they are doing is working. tenacious. and generally disciplined. another big key is their turnaround in the pk. the poopty road pk was a huge reason they missed last season. i think they can still make noise if they play the same they have at ES and on the PK and survive a weak pp.
and i can't wait for the future, but i'm enjoying the hell out of this.

Quotes not working for me either, but I agree 155.6% with Jsaq's analysis.
I really thought that borderline playoff team was the absolute best case scenario for this team.
I also stated on this board around the time of the TDL that the mathematics involved in getting the Flyers from where they were to a playoff spot were really daunting, and it probably wouldnt happen.
I will be so pleased to be wrong.
...and as a special added bonus, I may get to see the Penguins and Rangers beat the everloving snot out of one another in a best of seven grudge match which leaves the winner losing in the 2nd round. That would be sweet.

He has 11 points aka goals now on the season. That's not a good rate. And, if you add in assists (I don't believe in them personally -- they're the Devil's work) he has matched his matched his point total from last season. Let's just admit what we all know: the guy has stagnated.
